- Latest model runs from NOAA and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology have backed off on the super strong El Nino forecast – as we expected
- South America Update
- Southwestern Argentina started getting rain overnight
- Rain will be widespread in Argentina, Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul in the coming week occurring in a couple of waves
- Some areas will see the moisture profile saturate, but it should not last long
- Drier bias remains in interior southern Brazil for this first week of the outlook with some short-term relief in the second week
- Mato Grosso to Minas Gerais wet bias is misleading in the accumulative total rain map pages
- Only short-term bouts of greater rain are expected
- North America Update
- This week’s heatwave will add more stress to wheat areas in the Plains, but it will be mostly today and Saturday and again briefly during mid-week next week
- Prospects for rain in early April rain remain in the forecast today in portions of the Plains, Midwest, Delta and southeastern states
- Relief is possible, but not necessarily in the western high Plains region
- West and South Texas and northeastern Mexico will all have opportunities for shower and thunderstorm activity in early April; though, the amounts will still be light and sporadic coverage in some areas
- Drought will remain in the southeastern corner of the U.S.
- Temperatures will be warmer than usual in much of the contiguous U.S. in week two, but the only excessive heat will be in western parts of the nation into Saturday and again briefly next week
- Rest of World
- Few theme changes noted overnight
- Northern India gets some welcome rain Thursday
- India has a milder than usual temperature regime in the next five days and then warms up again – no excessive heat, though
- India also gets a few random showers helping crops as they fill
- Middle East flood potential still high in the coming week; although today’s outlook is not quite as intensive on the rain as advertised previously
- Europe weather will be tranquil for a while
- CIS snow melt will continue to advance well without new rain/snow to aggravate the situation
- China’s Yangtze River Basin will be wettest
- Most of east-central China’s wheat and rapeseed areas benefited from rain in the past week
- Eastern Australia dryness will favor maturing summer crops and their harvest
- South Africa will trend wetter
- Few theme changes noted overnight
