WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 22, 2023
- Another week of poor rainfall is expected in southern Argentina and then some increase in shower activity is possible
- Brazil weather will continue moist over the next two weeks with periods of rain maintaining some challenge for soybean maturation and harvesting as well as Safrinha corn planting
- Progress will be made, albeit slowly especially in Parana, Sao Paulo, eastern Mato Grosso do Sul and southern Minas Gerais
- Net drying is likely in parts of northeastern Brazil
- Timely rain is expected in Rio Grande do Sul
- Bitter cold in Canada and the north-central U.S. will prevail into the weekend, but warming should follow for a few days before another round of bitter cold evolves in early March
- U.S. hard red winter wheat areas will not be harmed by the coming bitter cold because the coldest areas will get snow ahead of the coldest conditions
- West-central and southwestern portions of the U.S. Plains will continue drier biased for the next two weeks
- Unusually warm temperatures in the southern Plains, Delta and southeastern United States will continue through the weekend and then trend a little cooler next week
- Northern Europe and northwestern Asia will turn cooler in week 2 of the outlook, but temperatures will be warm in this first week of the outlook
- Southeastern China will be drier than usual over the next two weeks, but today’s soil moisture is favorably rated for rapeseed and the coming rice planting season
- Wheat in China is still in good condition with little change likely
- Snow and some rain will fall frequently in western Russia and Ukraine to maintain high flood potentials in the spring
- Negative North Atlantic Oscillation will bring cooler weather to northern Europe and a more active weather pattern across southern Europe and possible in North Africa as well

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 21, 2023
- Frost occurred Saturday morning in Argentina’s summer grain and oilseed production areas
- Most of the frost was soft and did not have a big impact on crops, but there were exceptions and an assessment of the damage will come later this week
- Western Cordoba and east-central San Luis took the brunt of the coldest conditions and soybeans were likely impacted more than corn with extreme lows slipping near and slightly below freezing in several areas, but mostly along the western fringes of crop country
- In the meantime, southern Argentina will continue drier than usual for much of the next week with limited rainfall continuing out ten days
- Northern Argentina will get some needed rain
- Brazil weather has changed little from that of late last week with waves of rain to disrupt soybean harvesting and Safrinha crop planting
- Mato Grosso weather should improve after turning wetter during the Friday through Monday period
- Bitter cold is expected in Canada and a part of the far northern U.S. Plains this week
- Temperatures will be very warm in the southeastern U.S. and Delta this week
- Heavy snow is expected from southwestern Alberta through central Montana and Wyoming through south Dakota and parts of Nebraska to the Great Lakes region this week
- West-central and southwestern U.S. Plains will stay dry this week as will much of South Texas and the Texas Coastal Bend

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 17, 2023
- Unusually cool temperatures occurred in southwestern Argentina this morning with extreme lows of 37 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit or +2 to +8C
- Readings were not cold enough for a long enough period of time to induce any threat of damage, although crop growth rates were slowed
- Argentina is advertised to be dry through Wednesday of next week
- Showers and thunderstorms that develop late next week are unlikely to soak the ground, but any moisture would be welcome
- The precipitation will be greatest in the north where some relief from dryness is likely; however, southern parts of the nation are unlikely to get significant moisture through the first day in March

- A disruption to farming activity is likely in Mato Grosso this weekend and next week for a little while and then drier weather will resume again late this month and in early March
- Brazil’s wettest weather is still expected in Parana, Sao Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and southern Minas Gerais where delays in harvesting are most likely
- U.S. hard red wheat areas received significant snow Wednesday into Thursday morning with most of the snow occurring during the day Thursday falling from central and southwestern Iowa to northern and central Lower Michigan
- Total accumulations from Colorado to Michigan the past two days ranged from 4 to 11 inches and moisture from the eventual melting snow will lift topsoil moisture in a part of the central Plains
- Snow will fall in the northern U.S. Plains and upper Midwest during the middle part of next week slowing travel, but providing some beneficial moisture when the snow melts
- Florida, southern Georgia and South Carolina will experience net drying over the next 10-12 days while precipitation is much more abundant in the Tennessee River Basin and the immediate Ohio River Valley
- Western Europe will experience a boost in precipitation next week improving topsoil moisture for France, northern Spain and northern Portugal as well as across much of the North and Baltic Sea regions
- Southeastern Europe will be driest over the next ten days
- North Africa precipitation will be restricted over the next week except in Morocco where some welcome rain is likely
- No change in production potential is expected, though
- Waves of snow will move from the Baltic States and Belarus through southwestern Ukraine to the southern Ural Mountain region and northwestern Kazakhstan crop areas during the coming week to ten days
- The snow may slow travel and stress livestock
- India is still advertised to receive a restricted amount of rain during the next two weeks resulting in crop moisture stress during reproduction
- China weather will continue mostly good for its winter crops during the next two weeks
- Southeast Asia oil palm weather will be mostly good over the next two weeks
- Eastern Australia summer crop areas will continue to experience an erratic rainfall pattern that will not benefit very many crops for a while

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 16, 2023
- Central Argentina’s best potential rain event is today and early Friday
- Rain has already evolved in a part of Cordoba and in a few neighboring areas of southern and western Santa Fe overnight and additional rain is expected today
- Most of Argentina’s greatest rain during the next ten days will be in western and northern crop areas as predicted earlier this week
- Beneficial rain is expected in the north, but not in Buenos Aires, La Pampa, southern Cordoba, southern Santa Fe or portions of Entre Rios
- No changes were noted in Brazil’s weather overnight
- S. weather is expected to trend cooler as late February arrives, but the cold will first accumulate in the north-central states and in Canada where readings may be bitterly cold by this time next week
- Europe and Asia temperatures are still advertised warm during the next ten days
- High pressure ridge building in the south-central and southeastern United States over the next ten days will heat up those areas while periods of rain lighten up for a while especially in the southeastern states
- Florida, southern Georgia and South Carolina will be dry for a while
- West Texas and the Texas Coastal Bend will not get much rain for a while and the planting season is quickly approaching
- Snow has fallen in the central U.S. Plains overnight with up to 7 inches noted in western Kansas and eastern Colorado
- Another round of snow is likely in the northern Plains and upper U.S. Midwest during mid-week next week as cold air seeps southward from Canada
- S. Tennessee River Basin will be wettest for the next ten days
- New waves of rain and mountain snow are expected in California during the last week of this month
- Portions of Western Europe will trend wetter in the second week of the two week forecast
- Eastern Europe will be wettest into the weekend while Western Europe is dry
- No change in the dry India forecast was noted overnight
- No change for China, Australia or South Africa as well

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 15, 2023
- Not much changed in the world overnight
- Southern Argentina will be dry or mostly dry through the end of this month
- Brazil will continue too wet for the next two weeks in Parana, Sao Paulo, southern Minas Gerais and a part of Mato Grosso do Sul
- Mato Grosso will see good harvest and planting weather at times the remainder of this week, but rain will increase this weekend and next week slowing field progress once again
- U.S. hard red winter wheat areas will get some snow today with 3 to 7 inches of accumulation expected and locally more; including eastern Colorado, much of western and central Kansas and southern Nebraska
- No drought busting moisture is likely, but the moisture from melting snow will help improve winter crops later this season
- Plenty of moisture is expected to fall across the U.S. Midwest, Delta and southeastern States over the next two weeks maintaining abundant soil moisture
- Europe continues unusually dry raising worry over long term soil moisture ahead of spring crop development
