WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 7, 2023
- Santa Fe, southern Chaco and northern Buenos Aires, Argentina eastward to western and southern Rio Grande do Sul and southwestern Paraguay will be dry for the next ten days
- Rain is still predicted for western and far southern Argentina and in many areas in center west through center south Brazil
- Brazil’s dry areas in Bahia, northeastern Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo will get rain next week
- U.S. precipitation will be greatest in three areas over the next ten days
- The northern Plains and upper Midwest will see waves of snow
- Areas from eastern Oklahoma through the northern Delta to the Tennessee River Basin and interior southeastern states will be wetter than usual with 2.00 to 4.00 inches and local totals over 5.00 inches possible by March 17
- Central and northern California through the Cascade mountains of western Oregon and western Washington will receive frequent bouts of rain and snow further raising the spring runoff potential
- West Texas, South Texas and the Texas Coastal Bend will be dry biased over the next ten days
- Limited moisture is expected west-central parts of the U.S. hard red winter wheat country over the next ten days, although some snow and rain will be possible briefly next week
- Central and southeastern parts of Canada’s Prairies will get some weekend snow that will prove to be beneficial
- Europe weather will turn more active with France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Netherlands becoming much wetter in the coming week to ten days
- Eastern Spain and the lower Danube River Basin will remain drier biased
- Western CIS precipitation will continue frequent maintaining wet fields and abundant snow cover
- India is still expecting some showers later this week that will help temper warmer than usual temperatures and crop stress
- China precipitation will be greatest from Jiangxi to southern Sichuan and Guizhou in this coming week to ten days; most other areas will get minimal precipitation and stay warmer than usual
- Queensland and far northeastern New South Wales, Australia will receive rain Wednesday into Saturday offering some relief from dryness
- North Africa precipitation will be minimal for the next ten days

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 6, 2023
- U.S. snowfall was heavy during the weekend in parts of the Dakotas, from northeastern Illinois and northwestern Indiana into southeastern Michigan and throughout the southern two thirds of New England and eastern New York
- Snow totals reached over 17 inches in the northeastern states and over 11 inches in Michigan while up to 11 inches occurred in North Dakota
- Significant rain also fell across the heart of the eastern Midwest
- More snowy weather is likely across the northern Plains, Great Lakes region and northeastern states in the coming week due to the surge of cold air coming south out of Canada this week and early next week
- Impressive snowfall is expected in some areas with more than 20 inches possible by this time next week in a part of the northern Plains and upper Midwest
- Mild to warm weather is likely in the southern U.S.
- No rain precipitation is expected in the west-central through the southwestern Plains during the next ten days
- Some moisture will reach into the lower Delta and far southeastern states, but the cold does not advance as far to the south as previously advertised leaving some areas from south Texas to Florida and Georgia with only a brief period of dryness relief next week
- South and West Texas will stay dry for a while as will northeastern Mexico
- California and western portions of both Washington and Oregon are expecting another week to ten days of active weather with frequent precipitation that will promote abundant runoff this spring
- Argentina rainfall will be greatest in the west and southern parts of the nation over the coming week, but next week “some” relief from dryness may occur in central and east-central parts of the nation
- Brazil weather will be favorably mixed over the next couple of weeks with rain and sunshine expected in all areas that should prove to be good for late season crop development, but harvesting of soybeans and Safrinha planting could be sluggish at times
- India will get some showers this week that will help hold back the temperatures, but no general improvement in winter crop conditions is expected
- Some of China’s Yangtze River Basin will get rain in the coming ten days, but a few northern and eastern areas may experience net drying
- Net drying is likely elsewhere in the nation
- Warming in China is bringing on more aggressive rapeseed development and some wheat is beginning to green up
- Central Queensland will get rain in the coming week and today’s computer models have suggested southern Queensland and northeastern New South Wales may get some rain late this weekend and next week

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 5, 2023

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 3, 2023
- U.S. temperatures will be colder in the Great Plains, Midwest and some eastern states during the second week of the outlook, but readings will be most anomalous in the Plains
- Canada’s southwestern Prairies will continue to be drier biased away from the Rocky Mountains for a while, but there is plenty of time for improved soil moisture during late March and April
- India’s weather is advertised a little wetter for the second week of the forecast today relative to that of Thursday, but the moisture will not likely have a huge impact on production, although it will help to hold back the temperatures which is a huge benefit to crops already suffering from recent warmer and drier biased conditions
- Eastern Australia is still drier biased in the first ten days of the outlook, but there is some suggestion of possibly a little more rain after March 12, but confidence is not high
- South Africa weather will be favorably mixed with periods of sun and rain during the next two weeks
- Europe is wetter in the second week of the forecast today relative to that of Thursday
- Argentina is still going to struggle for moisture in the east-central and southeast part of the nation, but there a couple of opportunities for rain in the southwest early next week and again late next week
- The rain should be light
- Brazil weather will slowly improve, but Parana, Sao Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul need a few days of complete dryness to get fields to firm up enough for more aggressive fieldwork and that may be hard to come by for a while
- Daily rainfall in the wettest areas will continue, but its intensity will slowly decrease which will be helpful
- The best drying conditions will occur next week and there will be some eventual acceleration in harvest progress
- U.S. hard red winter wheat areas will have another opportunity for snow and rain in the second half of next week
- Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado will benefit most of the moisture as will central Oklahoma, but the southwestern Plains may not get much moisture

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 2, 2023
- Southern Argentina rainfall is advertised to increase after March 12 by both the European and GFS Ensemble forecast model runs
- No change was noted in Brazil weather overnight
- GFS model is producing too much moisture across the U.S. Great Plains in the second week of the forecast today
- The southwestern U.S. Plains should continue drier biased, but not totally dry during the next two weeks
- South Texas, northeastern Mexico and the Texas Coastal Bend still need significant moisture to improve spring planting conditions
- Northern U.S. Delta crop areas will experience heavy rainfall in the coming week while sufficient rain occurs in the Midwest to maintain wet field conditions
- More snow is coming to the northern U.S. Plains and upper Midwest Saturday night and Sunday with follow up precipitation possible later next week
- India is still facing warm temperatures and restricted rainfall over the next ten days threatening some of its winter crop
- Eastern China will experience net drying over the coming week except from Sichuan and Hubei to Yunnan where some rain is likely
- Eastern Australia dryland crops and livestock areas will continue quite dry for the next two weeks
- Europe weather will trend wetter after Monday
- Western CIS weather will continue plenty wet for the next ten days
- North Africa still needs greater precipitation in Tunisia and interior northeastern Algeria
- Middle East Precipitation will continue lighter than usual
- South Africa weather will remain favorable

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 1, 2023

- Drought in Canada’s Prairies
- Argentina drought parallel to 2009 continues and in 2009 the drought lasted deeply into the autumn
- Quick transitions from prolonged La Nina to El Nino weather patterns can lead to drier summers in U.S.
- Excessive flooding expected in Peninsular Malaysia
- Weather overnight did not offer significant changes to Argentina’s weather which is expected to continue drier than usual through the next ten days
- Far northern Argentina will get some beneficial moisture
- Brazil will continue to see rain fall frequently with the interior south continuing to get rain most often and experiencing the greatest delays
- India’s rain potential has not improved greatly, but a few showers are expected this weekend and next week
- Eastern China rapeseed areas should not be seriously impacted by the current drying trend – at least not for a while, but the trend could prevail for a while making that a greater issue in time
- China wheat areas will remain seasonably dry, but warm temperatures will slowly raise soil temperatures
- Eastern Australia dryness will continue a concern for unirrigated summer crops
- Showers will occur in eastern most areas most often
- South Africa rainfall will be favorable dispersed over the next ten days
- Europe will continue drier biased for another week, although some showers will occur at times across the south
- Northeastern parts of North Africa will receive some beneficial moisture
- U.S. temperatures are still advertised to be cooler than usual in the west and north-central states as well as in southwestern Canada’s Prairies for a while
- The cold will push into the U.S. Plains and western Corn Belt during the second week of the outlook
- U.S. west-central and southwestern Plains may not get much precipitation for a while
- South Texas, northeastern Mexico and the Texas Coastal Bend are advertised to get some moisture late in the second week of March, but confidence is low
- U.S. Delta, lower eastern Midwest and Tennessee River Basin will be wet biased for a while
- Southern California gets some rain today and central and northern areas will be impacted during the weekend and early next week along with the Cascade Mountains of Washington and Oregon
- Snow fell significantly again overnight from central and southern North Dakota and northern South Dakota into west-central and interior northern Minnesota with 4 to 10 inches resulting
- More snow will fall in the northern U.S. Plains late this weekend into early next week
- Flood potentials will be rising in the U.S. Red River Basin of the North this spring if significant snow continues to fall without any melting during the balance of winter

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 28, 2023
- More snow will fall in a part of the northern U.S. Plains and upper Midwest today and Wednesday resulting a greater snowpack across the Red River Basin
- Spring flood potentials may soon begin to rise due to the substantial snow that is piling up across the region
- Spring flooding is real possibility this year in southwestern Russia and immediate neighboring areas of Belarus where the ground is saturated beneath an impressive snowpack
- Northeastern parts of North Africa and areas from Italy into the Balkan Countries will receive rain for a few more days while other areas in Europe are relatively dry
- Some increase in precipitation is expected next week from France into the Baltic Plain while southern Europe dries down
- Western CIS crop areas will continue to experience frequent snow and rainfall during the next ten days maintaining wet field conditions
- China’s southern Sichuan to eastern Yunnan corridor will be wettest region for a while
- Net drying is expected in many other areas due to warmer than usual temperatures and limited precipitation
- India’s weather will continue to be drier biased through the weekend, but there will be a potential for “some” showers next week
- Resulting rainfall will be limited though
- Interior Eastern Australia’s dryland crops will continue to be stressed because of low soil moisture and limited rainfall
- South Africa will trend wetter again in its summer crop areas later this week into next week
- Argentina’s first week outlook is still not offering much drought relief in the central or south, but week two of the forecast still offers some potential for needed rain
- Brazil weather forecast has not changed much relative to that of Monday with periods of rain likely in much of the nation excluding the northeast where parts of Bahia, northeastern Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo will be dry until late in the second week when some rain will finally evolve
- U.S. central and eastern Midwest, Delta and Tennessee River Basin will be plenty moist over the next two weeks
- Cooling is likely in the central parts of North America during the second week of March
- U.S. hard red winter wheat areas will not get much precipitation for a while, although another disturbance is expected to impact parts of the region Thursday into Friday and again March 8-9
- Snow will fall in the northern Plains today
- Snow and rain will continue to impact California into Wednesday and again for a little while next week
- West and South Texas and many areas in the Gulf of Mexico coastal areas as well as Florida will be dry for the next ten days

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 27, 2023
- Not much change occurred in the world during the weekend
- Heavy rain and impressive mountain snow fell in California resulting in some flooding and another round of impressive snow accumulation to impact runoff potentials in the spring
- Thunderstorms occurred Sunday night and early today in central and eastern parts of U.S. hard red winter wheat country with moisture totals of 0.10 to 0.74 inch resulting.
- South-central Kansas was wettest along with north-central Oklahoma
- The high Plains region did not receive much moisture, but a few areas in central and northwestern Oklahoma reported more than 1.00 inch
- West and South Texas and the Texas Coastal Bend area will continue quite dry over the next ten days, although some showers will impact West Texas briefly later this week
- Temperatures will be cold in western parts of North America this week and very warm to the east
- Argentina will see restricted rainfall during the next ten days in the central and south while rain falls later this week in the north
- Brazil will see rain periodically in all crop areas during the next couple of weeks excepting Bahia, northeastern Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo where net drying is expected
- Eastern Australia’s unirrigated summer crops will continue dry biased and looking for significant rain
- India will be dry for another week and then a few showers may pop up in parts of central India during the second week of March
- Southern Europe and northern Africa will be wetter biased during the coming ten days which may improve soil moisture in the drier areas

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR FEBRUARY 24, 2023
- No changes in Brazil’s forecast were noted overnight
- Brazil will continue too wet in Parana, Sao Paulo, portions of Mato Grosso do Sul and southernmost Minas Gerais
- Mato Grosso weather will not be wet enough to seriously disrupt soybean harvesting or Safrinha corn planting, although some occasional rain will keep the planting pace a little slow at times
- Argentina’s central and southern crop areas will be dry into Wednesday of next week and then there is a chance for rain during the latter part of next week and into the following weekend
- No drought busting rain is expected, but there will be opportunity for relief from dryness in some central crop areas
- Northern Argentina will see periodic rainfall over the next couple of weeks offering the best environment for crop improvements.
- North America temperatures will continue cold in Canada’s Prairies and in the western United States over the next couple of weeks
- Unusually warm temperatures have been occurring and will continue to occur in the southern U.S. Plains, Delta and southeastern states for another week to ten days bringing winter crops out of dormancy and stimulating some significant growth
- Western U.S. hard red winter wheat areas will miss significant rain for a while longer
- Recent cold weather in the northern and west-central high U.S. Plains has not induced permanent crop damage due to snow cover even though some of the snow cover was minimal in northwestern Kansas
- Southwestern Europe will be cooler than usual into next week while the remainder of Europe and Asia will continue warmer than usual
- Eastern China will continue to dry down for a while longer; including some rapeseed and wheat areas, although neither crop will be negatively impacted
- Greater rain will be needed later in March and April to ensure the best crop development
- India rainfall is still advertised to be minimal over the next ten days with temperatures near to slightly above normal
- The environment will not be ideal for the best yields, but irrigated crops should perform normally
- Southern Europe and northern Africa will experience greater rainfall potentials during the next couple of weeks which may bring some relief to dryness for some areas
- Tropical Cyclone Freddy will produce significant rain in Mozambique today and Saturday
