WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 19, 2023
- Significant rain fell in southern Argentina during the weekend and central Argentina will get significant rain during mid-week this week
- Brazil’s Safrinha corn planting and soybean harvest progress likely advanced well during the weekend and more progress is likely this week from northern Rio Grande do Sul and southern Mato Grosso do Sul through Parana and Sao Paulo to southern Minas Gerais where the longer delays in fieldwork have occurred in the past few weeks
- U.S. weather has not changed much with drought to prevail in the southwestern Plains
- Southern Texas will have opportunity for rain this week, although much more will be needed
- California will get more rain and mountain snow raising the spring flood potential
- The Red River Basin of the North will receive more waves of snow during the next ten days and remain colder than usual raising the potential for flooding when warmer weather evolves later this season
- The U.S. Midwest, Delta and interior southeastern states will remain plenty moist during the next ten days
- Some dryness relief is likely in the lower Delta and areas east into Florida, although more rain will be needed
- Frost and freezes in the U.S. Delta and southeastern states overnight tonight will bring permanent damage to booting and heading wheat in minor production areas
- North Africa will continue drier than usual over the next ten days to two weeks raising stress for some dryland crops
- India received rain during the weekend raising concern over the quality of filling and maturing wheat, rapeseed, mustard and pulse crops as well as a few other
- More rain will fall in northern and eastern crop areas through this workweek further raising concern over crop conditions
- China will be wettest in the Yangtze River Basin and areas to the south during the coming ten days
- China’s lower Yellow River Basin and North China Plain will need moisture soon to maintain a good outlook for spring crop development
- Australia rainfall will be greatest in the southeast this week, but some rain will reach into eastern summer crop areas during the weekend and next week.

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 17, 2023
- Rain is still projected for central Argentina Monday into Wednesday of next week
- Central Argentina is experiencing the worst of the drought conditions and the moisture next week will greatly help stop the decline in crop conditions, but it will come too late to seriously improve production
- Brazil’s late Safrinha corn planting and soybean harvesting are advancing better from Parana to southern Minas Gerais and in some southern Mato Grosso do Sul locations because of less frequent and less significant rain
- Drought stricken areas of the U.S. west-central and southwestern Plains will not get meaningful relief in the next ten days
- South Texas may get some needed rain early next week
- West Texas remains dry during much of the next ten days
- U.S. Midwest, Delta, southeastern states and far western U.S. will continue to experience frequent precipitation
- Algeria and Tunisia rainfall will be greatest in the last week of this month and will offer only a little relief from recent drying
- West-central Africa coffee and cocoa areas will get sufficient rain to support flowering
- No change in the China forecast occurred over night with the Yangtze River Basin and areas to the south trending wetter
- India’s unsettled weather pattern will bring rain to many areas through Tuesday of next week possibly raising a little concern over winter crop quality, but drier weather should arrive in time to protect most crops

- Cordoba to Entre Rios, Argentina and farther east to southern Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil is advertised to receive heavy rain early next week by both the GFS and ECMWF forecast models today
- This event may be overdone, although it does have some potential to provide relief to chronic dryness in a portion of central Argentina
- Confidence is low today and the official forecast will decrease the model advertised rain totals, but the system will be closely monitored

- Outside of the above change in South America, Argentina and Brazil’s weather today relative to that advertised Wednesday has not changed

- U.S. Midwest, Delta and southeastern states will be sufficiently wet for a while
- Another storm in the upper Midwest will produce snow today with a follow up system possible during mid-week next week
- California will continue to see waves of precipitation maintaining a very significant mountain snowpack and runoff potential
- Flood potentials remain high in the Red River Basin of the North for next month because of a deep snowpack and very little melting likely over the next two weeks
- Europe will go back into a dry and warm weather mode for the coming week to ten days with eastern parts of the continent driest and warmest
- Rain will return to the west in the last days of March
- China’s Yangtze River Basin will get abundant rain in the next ten days while other areas are mostly dry
- Eastern Australia will continue dry biased for a while as will South Africa and portions of North Africa
- India’s shower activity in the coming five to six days will raise some concern over crop quality

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 15, 2023
- Negative PDO remains strong and has been strengthening in the past few weeks which may prove important for U.S. weather this summer
- U.S. hard red winter wheat production areas are still not advertised to receive much precipitation of significance during the next two weeks, although some light precipitation is expected infrequently
- South Texas, the Texas Coastal Bend and northeastern Mexico have a good chance for rain next week, although frequent follow up precipitation will be needed to ensure the best planting, emergence and establishment conditions for corn, sorghum and cotton
- West Texas weather will remain limited on rain for a while, although totally dry weather is not likely
- U.S. Delta and southeastern states will get enough precipitation to support spring planting and early season crop development
- A snowstorm in the upper Midwest will produce 3 to 9 and local 11 inches of snowfall Thursday from southeastern South Dakota and northeastern Nebraska into much of Minnesota
- Argentina weather will continue drier than usual in the heart of the nation while some showers and thunderstorms occur in the perimeter of crop country
- Limited rainfall from northern Rio Grande do Sul through Parana and to Minas Gerais will induce better harvest and planting weather, but rain will fall abundantly in center west Brazil
- India’s shower activity in the next two weeks could raise some worry over crop quality in a few of the wetter areas
- China’s Yangtze River Basin will still receive the most significant moisture in China over the next two weeks favoring long term rapeseed development
- Limited rain will occur in the North China Plain and northern half of the Yellow River Basin – which is normal for this time of year

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 14, 2023
- No major changes occurred overnight
- China will see frequent rain in the Yangtze River Basin supporting aggressive rapeseed development and some early rice planting
- India will experience unsettled shower active from late this week into early next week possibly benefiting a few late season crops, but no serious improvement in yield potential is expected and most of the precipitation should not harm wheat quality
- Eastern Australia rainfall is ending and a drier forecast will resume for Queensland and New South Wales over the next ten days
- North Africa will see mostly dry weather for another week and then scattered showers will resume and the moisture may be helpful in raising soil moisture for reproduction
- Europe weather will continue active in the northwest over the coming week and then wetter for most of the west and northeast
- Southeastern Europe is not likely to see much precipitation of significance for a while
- Melting snow continues in parts of western Russia and precipitation will be light enough to help reduce flood potentials, but areas of standing water and localized flooding are likely
- Argentina’s weather will continue a little too dry for a while longer; some showers are expected, but drought busting rain will be hard to come by for a while
- Brazil weather will be less wet for parts of Parana, Sao Paulo and southern Minas Gerais over the next ten days, although rain is still expected periodically
- Center west Brazil as well as Tocantins, Maranhao, Piaui, Goias and western Bahia are expected to get some periodic rainfall through the next two weeks maintaining wet field conditions
- U.S. hard red winter wheat production areas are not expecting much precipitation for a while, but some shower activity of limited significance is likely

- Eastern China is drying down especially in the Yellow River Basin and North China Plain and this process will continue
- Temperatures peaked in the 80s Fahrenheit in this region during the weekend
- China’s rapeseed areas will get routinely occurring rainfall over the next two weeks supporting long term crop development
- India will see rain in central and eastern parts of the nation later this week into next week, but the moisture will come too late in the season to seriously change winter crops
- Some rice and sugarcane will benefit, though, wheat quality concerns may rise, but most of the rain in that region will be too light to seriously impact the crop
- North Africa will be dry for another week and then some rain is likely in northeastern Algeria and northern Tunisia
- Europe topsoil moisture has increased following the recent boost in rainfall across the north
- Dryness remains in eastern Spain and the lower Danube River Basin with little change likely
- Temperatures reached the 70s and lower 80s Fahrenheit in eastern Spain during the weekend

- Opportunity for dryness relief is still on the forecast charts for the second half of next week, but it is still a little too far out in time to have high expectations – no drought busting rain is expected, but some relief will occur
- North Africa is still too dry in many areas which may be hurting wheat and barley development
- Not much rain is expected for a while
- India will see dry biased weather for another week and then some rain is possible in the east and south, but it may come too late to seriously change winter crop production potential
- China will remain wettest in the Yangtze River Basin benefiting rapeseed development and early rice planting
- China’s warm weather is bringing winter wheat out of dormancy in the Yellow River Basin and North China Plain, but not much precipitation is likely in the region for a while
- Europe will see a more active weather pattern over the next ten days in the central and north finally raising water reservoir levels along with boosting river and stream flow in many areas
- Dryness remains in eastern Spain and the lower Danube River Basin with little relief anticipated
- Western CIS crop areas will also see an active weather pattern evolve over the next couple of weeks keeping the moisture profile looking excessively wet in many areas, but not in Russia’s Southern Region where conditions should be good
- U.S. dryness will continue in the west-central and southwestern Plains
- Southern Texas rainfall is still looking probable for next week
- Cool weather in the central United States looks to prevail during the second week of the outlook after developing next week
- Southern Canada’s Prairies will receive some welcome and beneficial snowfall this weekend
- U.S. Delta and Tennessee River Basin will continue wet biased for a while along with eastern and southern parts of the Midwest
- California’s snow event today into the weekend in the Sierra Nevada will be very impressive with 1.5 to 5.0 feet of snow expected

- Argentina rainfall “may” increase after near and after March 15, according to the latest model runs overnight
- Confidence is relatively good for some increase in rainfall, but how significant that may or may not be remains to be seen
- World Weather, Inc. has been suggesting week 2 rainfall in Argentina would be closer to normal in its afternoon weather outlook maps in recent days and the model change overnight seems to fit this relatively well
- Brazil will continue wet or at least will experience frequent precipitation over the next ten days to two weeks except in Rio Grande do Sul and a few areas in Bahia and Espirito Santo where limited rain is expected to continue.
- India weather is still advertised a little wetter in the east and south during the second week of the outlook today while precipitation through March 15 is more limited
- China’s Yangtze River Basin will receive sufficient rain to support crop development favorably
- Other areas in China will experience net drying and warmer than usual weather for a while
- Central through southeastern Queensland, Australia will receive significant rain over the next few days benefiting all crops, especially those not irrigated
- Europe is still trending wetter with the biggest improvement likely in France, Germany and the U.K.
- S. west-central and southwestern Plains will continue lacking rain with unirrigated wheat needing rain
- South Texas and the Texas Coastal Bend could get some rain during the middle to latter part of next week
- Snow will fall from southern Canada’s Prairies into parts of the Midwest through the weekend
- Impressive snowfall and coastal rain will impact California over the coming week Friday’s storm may produce record snowfall in the southern Sierra Nevada

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 8, 2023
- Not many changes overnight
- Central and eastern Argentina into far southern Brazil, Uruguay and southwestern Paraguay will be dry or experience net drying conditions for the next ten days
- Western and far southern Argentina will get periodic rainfall of benefit for late season crops that have survived the drought
- Center south and center west Brazil are expected to be wetter biased during the coming ten days that may slow late season soybean harvesting and Safrinha corn planting
- India’s rainfall will continue light and erratic, but the moisture and cloud cover will help to prevent temperatures from getting excessively hot
- Eastern China will dry down for a while except for the western and southern parts of the Yangtze River Basin where some occasional rain is expected
- Temperatures will be warmer than usual and winter wheat greening will continue while rapeseed development accelerates
- Central Queensland through northeastern New South Wales will get rain during the balance of this week and into the weekend offering relief for dryland crops suffering from limited precipitation and poor soil moisture
- Germany, France and the U.K. will receive significant precipitation over the coming week improving runoff and water supply
- Eastern Spain and the lower Danube River Basin will continue drier biased
- Excessive snowfall and valley rain will impact California and western Washington and western Oregon Thursday through a part of next week
- Waves of snow will continue form the northern Plains into the northern Midwest during the coming week
- Needed snow will accumulate in Canada’s Prairies this weekend improving spring planting moisture in some areas
- West and South Texas will continue to get very little precipitation for a while
