WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 30, 2023
- Portions of North Africa will receive needed rain Sunday into Tuesday of next week in northeastern Algeria and parts of Tunisia with coastal areas wettest; other areas in North Africa will be dry until the second weekend for the forecast with light showers are expected
- Northern India will receive additional rain today into early next week raising potential for wheat and other winter crop quality declines
- Argentina will be wettest in the central and north through the coming seven days with rain possible in the south during the April 6-12 period
- Brazil’s center south crop areas will continue in a net drying mode for a while longer supporting late season fieldwork; rain is expected to return in the April 3-10 period
- Two storms slated for the U.S. Red River Basin in the coming week will add to the snowpack and runoff potential when temperatures turn warmer in April
- Flooding will be serious and possibly damaging unless colder than usual weather prevails through April
- Delays in early season U.S. corn and rice planting will continue in the Delta and corn planting delays may extend northward during the first half of April impacting the lowermost Midwest as well
- No changes in drought status will occur for a while in Mexico, southwestern Canada’s Prairies or eastern Spain
- Europe and the westernmost CIS will experience plenty of moisture in the next two weeks outside of the Iberian Peninsula
- China weather should be mostly good for a while and the same is expected in Australia and South Africa

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 29, 2023
- No significant changes overnight
- U.S. hard red winter weather in the southwestern Plains and West Texas cotton, corn and sorghum areas will continue to experience dry or mostly dry weather over the next ten days
- U.S. Red River Basin areas of the North will experience two new storm systems over the coming week that will add more moisture to the region’s flood potential; the first is Thursday into Saturday and the second will be during mid-week next week
- Wet biased conditions continue in the Delta, lower Midwest and Tennessee River Basin during the next ten days raising concern over field working delays
- California and western parts of Oregon and Washington will experience plenty of moisture for a while
- Argentina’s weather will be favorably mixed with next week wettest
- Brazil weather will also be favorably mixed with net drying continuing for a while longer in center south crop areas favoring late season soybean harvesting
- Safrinha crops should be developing favorably
- Next week will trend wetter
- Northern India still has one more round of rain coming up for late this week in some of its wheat country maintaining concern over the quality of that crop and a few others produced nearby
- Western CIS and much of Europe will be wetter biased for a while, but spring fieldwork is only just beginning in the south
- Spain, Portugal and northern Africa remain quite dry and little change is likely for ten days, even though a few showers may evolve in Tunisia and northeastern Algeria briefly next week
- South Africa and Australia weather outlooks are similar to those of Monday
- China’s Yellow River Basin will get some welcome rain Sunday into Tuesday, although the precipitation event should weaken over the next couple of days

- U.S. hard red winter weather in the southwestern Plains and West Texas cotton, corn and sorghum areas will continue to experience dry or mostly dry weather over the next ten days

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 27, 2023
- Rain and snow in the central U.S. Plains was welcome during the weekend lifting topsoil moisture in southern Nebraska, northwestern Kansas and northeastern Colorado
- The southwestern U.S. Plains are still too dry and not likely to see much moisture for a while
- U.S. Planting delays are likely over the next ten days in the Delta and possibly in early April in some lower Midwest locations
- Concern over significant flooding in the Red River Basin and upper Mississippi River Basin remains on the rise, but the runoff will not likely become significant for at least another week. Some snow melt is expected to begin later this week, though
- Argentina and Brazil experienced quieter weather during the weekend and more of the same is expected this workweek.
- Argentina will trend wetter in the weekend and especially next week with Brazil wetter in the second week of the outlook
- Central Brazil crop areas will not likely see much rain for a while in the coming week favoring late soybean harvesting and any other fieldwork that needs to be completed like wheat planting and spraying in Safrinha crop areas
- Spain and North Africa will continue dry biased for much of the next two weeks leading to lower yields in unirrigated wheat and barley production areas
- Northern India received more rain during the weekend along with Pakistan and another storm system is expected in these same areas late this week further raising concern over crop quality
- China weather was excessively wet in the far south during the weekend with 3.50 to 13.23 inches of rain falling
- Southern China will dry down for a little while this week, but more rain is coming later this week that will be lighter than that of the weekend
- Other areas in China were dry or mostly dry during the weekend and will stay that way for a while this week, but rain is expected to develop during the weekend and continue early next week in the winter wheat and barley production region that will be ideal in restoring favorable soil moisture after drying in recent weeks
- Western CIS crop areas and much of Europe outside of the southwest will be trending wetter in the next week to ten days
- Northern India has another rain event coming up for Wednesday of this week into the weekend resulting in more downward pressure on winter crop quality, especially wheat

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 24, 2023
- Another storm of size may evolve in the northeastern U.S. Plains and upper Midwest in the second half of next week, although the system is almost a week away leaving time for adjustment
- Limited snow melt will occur in the Red River Basin and upper Mississippi River Basin over the next five days, but some melting is expected for a few hours each afternoon before strong freezes occur at night
- Southwestern U.S. hard red winter wheat areas will be dry biased for much of the next ten days along with West Texas cotton, corn and sorghum areas
- Rain will fall more often and more significantly in the last days of March and April from South Texas through the Blacklands and Coastal Bend regions of Texas into eastern Oklahoma and a part of the U.S. Midwest
- Wet weather in the Delta, Lower and eastern Midwest and Tennessee River will slow farming activity through the balance of March and into early April
- Canada’s Prairies will continue cold biased along with the far northern U.S. Plains and precipitation will be restricted into early next week
- Argentina will see waves of rain through the next two weeks with central and northern areas favored for this first week
- Central Brazil crop areas will continue drying out in the next week and then there will be some increase in precipitation once again
- North Africa and much of Spain will be dry biased during the next ten days
- Other areas in Europe will get waves of rain
- Western CIS crop areas will trend wetter later this weekend and especially next week and that precipitation along with melting snow may induce some areas of more significant flooding
- India still has more rain coming up across the far north today into the weekend raising more concern over winter wheat and a few other crop conditions
- No changes of significance were noted overnight for China, Australia or South Africa

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 23, 2023
- Interior northern Cordoba to northern and central Entre Rios, Argentina received additional rain of significance Wednesday and early today
- Additional waves of rain will impact central and northern Argentina through the next week to ten days bringing beneficial moisture to many areas
- Central Brazil will continue to dry down benefiting fieldwork of all kinds from Mato Grosso do Sul and Parana to Minas Gerais
- U.S. southwestern Plains will continue dry biased over the next ten days
- Waves of rain and snow will occur lightly across the central U.S. Plains Friday through the weekend bringing some moisture to Nebraska, northern Kansas and parts of northeastern Colorado
- April will turn wetter in the southern Plains favoring a boost in soil moisture from South Texas through the Blacklands to the heart of Oklahoma
- Abundant rain in the next ten days in the lower and eastern Midwest, Delta and Tennessee River Basin will lead to local flooding
- California precipitation will continue into next week
- West Texas precipitation will be minimal for the next ten days
- North Africa will remain dry for the next ten days and limited rain is likely in eastern Spain
- Europe is advertised wetter today relative to that of earlier this week outside of Spain
- Western CIS crop areas will see more frequent rain and some snow this weekend and next week while temperatures are warm enough to continue melting snow
- India’s far northern wheat areas will be negatively impacted by rain and thunderstorms Friday into the weekend
- No significant changes were noted in Australia, China, South Africa or the Southeast Asian nations overnight

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 22, 2023
- Heavy rain fell in central Argentina as expected overnight and has further expanded the cropland in that country that has been relieved of drought, although more rain is needed
- Central Brazil crop areas will continue to dry down for a little while longer and that should translate into a better harvest environment for late season soybeans and for any unplanted Safrinha corn
- U.S. hard red winter wheat areas were advertised wetter in the central Plains today by the GFS model, but the moisture looks overdone
- More snow fell in the Red River Basin of the North Tuesday and overnight adding 7 inches of additional snow and another 0.65 inch of moisture to the deep snowpack that promises to induce flooding later this spring
- U.S. lower Midwest, Delta and Tennessee River Basin will be excessively wet for a while delaying some early season corn and rice planting
- California will continue quite wet for a while longer
- India has another wave of significant rain coming to the north Thursday into Saturday raising the potential for more wheat quality problems and some rapeseed and mustard might also be negatively impacted
- Portions of Pakistan are also expected to be too wet with a wheat quality issue expected
- Rain in northern India and Pakistan may prove good for early season cotton which is normally planted in April and May
- No changes in China, Australia or Europe overnight
- Western CIS crop areas are expecting a boost in rainfall that may enhance flood potentials in northwestern Russia where snow is melting
- North Africa will continue dry for the next ten days stressing reproducing crops
- South Africa will experience some increase in precipitation during the next two weeks, although much of the precipitation advertised may be a little overdone

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 21, 2023
- Argentina’s rain event coming up over the next several days will provide some much needed relief from months of drought, although more moisture will be needed to end the drought
- The moisture should end the steady decline in crop conditions
- Brazil’s crop areas from southern Mato Grosso do Sul and Parana to Minas Gerais will continue to experience improving weather with an opportunity for more aggressive field progress to take place in late soybean harvesting and Safrinha corn planting
- U.S. Southwestern Plains will continue drier than usual over the next ten days; this includes west Texas cotton areas the southwestern hard red winter wheat production regions
- A succession of storm systems will continue to produce rain and mountain snow in California and in the Rocky Mountain region to the northern Plains and upper Midwest during the next ten days
- Flood potentials remain high for Red River Basin of the North and are increasing for the upper Mississippi River Valley, although the Mississippi River should handle the runoff from the spring snow melt much better than the Red River
- Canada’s Prairies will continue missing significant precipitation for a while
- North Africa will remain too dry for the next ten days
- Snow melt in Russia will be accompanied by rain and snow this weekend into next week complicating the runoff situation
- India’s rainfall will be much less frequent and less significant in the coming week than that of the weekend, but it will still be wetter than desired and some crop conditions will deteriorate
- No changes were noted for China, Australia or South Africa in the overnight forecasts

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 20, 2023
- Frost and freezes occurred in the Delta and southeastern United States overnight inducing damage to corn and wheat, although the area impacted was small and probably will not have a big impact on today’s markets
- Significant rain fell in southern Argentina during the weekend and central Argentina will get significant rain during mid-week this week
- Brazil’s Safrinha corn planting and soybean harvest progress likely advanced well during the weekend and more progress is likely this week from northern Rio Grande do Sul and southern Mato Grosso do Sul through Parana and Sao Paulo to southern Minas Gerais where the longer delays in fieldwork have occurred in the past few weeks
- U.S. weather has not changed much with drought to prevail in the southwestern Plains
- Southern Texas will have opportunity for rain this week, although much more will be needed
- California will get more rain and mountain snow raising the spring flood potential
- The Red River Basin of the North will receive more waves of snow during the next ten days and remain colder than usual raising the potential for flooding when warmer weather evolves later this season
- The U.S. Midwest, Delta and interior southeastern states will remain plenty moist during the next ten days
- Some dryness relief is likely in the lower Delta and areas east into Florida, although more rain will be needed
- North Africa will continue drier than usual over the next ten days to two weeks raising stress for some dryland crops
- India received rain during the weekend raising concern over the quality of filling and maturing wheat, rapeseed, mustard and pulse crops as well as a few other
- More rain will fall in northern and eastern crop areas periodically during the next ten days further raising concern over crop conditions, although a widespread serious production cut is unlikely
- China will be wettest in the Yangtze River Basin and areas to the south during the coming ten days
- More than 6.00 inches of rain fell in the south-central parts of the Yangtze River Basin during the weekend
- China’s lower Yellow River Basin and North China Plain will need moisture soon to maintain a good outlook for spring crop development
- Australia rainfall will be greatest in the southeast this week, but some rain will reach into eastern summer crop areas during the weekend and next week.
