WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR AUGUST 10, 2023
- Tropical Storm Khanun was over South Korea today producing heavy rain in much of the Korean Peninsula
- Some remnant moisture from Tropical Storm Khanun will reach northeastern China Friday into the weekend aggravating flood conditions there, but not much, if any, new damage to crops and property will result
- Western and far southern India rainfall still looks limited over the next ten days to two weeks resulting in the firming of soil
- East-central China as well as the Yellow River Basin and North China Plain have been drying down recently and that has been a welcome change after flooding rain earlier this summer
- Southern Australia will continue to get timely rain that will be supportive of wheat, barley and canola early spring development potential
- Europe weather will be drying down in the coming week after many northern areas became too wet earlier this month
- Western CIS drying from southeastern Ukraine through Russia’s Southern Region to northwestern Kazakhstan and the southern Ural Mountains region will continue along with warm weather for at least another ten days stressing some unirrigated late season crops
- Wheat areas of western Argentina are unlikely to get significant rain for an extended period of time raising concern about production potential this year
- Brazil wheat and first season corn production areas will remain favorably moist over the next two weeks with seasonable temperatures
- Safrinha corn and cotton harvesting in Brazil will advance well into late August due to ongoing dry weather
- Portions of Malaysia and Indonesia continue to dry down due to more erratic rainfall recently
- Southern Philippines are drying out and western Thailand precipitation is still restricted with little change expected
- U.S. Corn and Soybean production areas will see timely showers and thunderstorms and mild temperatures in the coming week before trending a little warmer than usual with less rain in the second week of the outlook
- Texas heat and dryness will prevail for another ten days south of the Red River; Wichita Falls, Texas reached 113 Fahrenheit Wednesday

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR AUGUST 9, 2023
- Western and southern India will continue to dry out over the next ten days to two weeks firming the soil in many areas and raising the need for late August and early September rain
- Most of India still has favorable soil moisture today except in the far south where it is dry
- South and North Korea will receive 4.00 to more than 9.00 inches of rain over the next few days from Tropical Storm Khanun as it moves northward through the heart of the Peninsula
- Northeastern China will get some rain from the dissipated Tropical Storm Khanun this weekend, but little to no new crop damage is expected following recent past flood events
- East-central China will continue to dry down for several more days
- Southern Australia will continue to receive periods of rain while northern agricultural areas are left in a net drying mode
- Rain may return to central and northern Europe during the middle to latter part of next week, but net drying is expected until then
- Drying will continue from Russia’s Southern Region and some eastern Ukraine locations into northwestern Kazakhstan and the southern Ural Mountains region during the coming ten days
- Temperatures will continue warmer than usual as well
- Canada’s southwestern Prairies are still expecting dry or net drying conditions for the next ten days while rain falls in the far western, northern and eastern portions of the region
- U.S. weather will be well mixed with rain and sunshine in the coming week – at least in the Midwest, Delta and southeastern states
- U.S. weather in the August 17-23 period will trend a little drier and warmer in the central and eastern portions of the nation
- Texas rainfall will continue minimal south of the Red River for another Ten days and temperatures will be warm to hot
- U.S. Northwestern Plains and Pacific Northwest will remain dry biased for the next ten days to two weeks
- A new round of hot weather is expected in the western United States next week
- No changes in Mexico or Argentina’s drought will occur for at least the next ten days to two weeks
- Brazil weather will remain favorable for most crop and farming needs.
- Dryness will continue in portions of western Thailand for another ten days
- Indonesia and Malaysia weather will trend a little wetter for a while

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR AUGUST 8, 2023
- Flooding rain is expected in South and North Korea Rice production areas over the next few days as Tropical Storm Khanun impacts the Korean Peninsula with 4.00 to 8.00 inches and local totals of 10-12 inches possible in a few areas
- China’s North China Plain continues to dry out after flooding rain more than a week ago
- Europe rainfall is expected to be less frequent and less significant which may improve small grain harvest progress
- Western CIS weather will be plenty wet for a while and that may slow the harvest and planting of 2024 crops in western Russia, the Baltic States and Belarus
- Drying is expected to continue from eastern Ukraine and Russia’s Southern Region into northwestern Kazakhstan and Russia’s southern Ural Mountains region for the next ten days
- Temperatures will be very warm in this region as well and crop stress will be on the rise
- India’s drying in the west and south will be more pronounced over the next two weeks eventually raising the potential for crop moisture and heat stress
- Southeast Asia rainfall is expected to improve in Indonesia and Malaysia in the coming week to ten days, but some of the advertised precipitation in the computer forecast model data is still overdone
- Southern Australia will continue favorably moist over the next couple of weeks while northern areas continue to dry out
- Argentina’s western drought is not likely to change over the next two weeks
- Brazil weather will remain favorably moist in southern wheat and early season corn planting areas while Safrinha corn and cotton areas experience net drying
- Tropical Storm Lan formed south of Honshu, Japan Monday and it will move across the island later this week without inducing much damage
- U.S. weather is expected to trend warmer in the second week forecast with less frequent and less significant rain
- Southwestern Canada’s Prairies will see no drought busting rainfall anytime soon
- Showers in northern and eastern Canada’s Prairies Wednesday into Friday will be welcome and supportive of late season crops, but the moisture comes too late for many of the small grain crops and canola.
- Mexico dryness will persist in the central and north along with much of Texas
- U.S. Midwest, Delta and southeastern states will continue to see a good mix of weather, although a few northwestern crop areas will continue a little too dry

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR AUGUST 4, 2023
- GFS model suggests greater rainfall in Canada’s Prairies next week in the most recent two model runs, but World Weather, Inc. believes the predicted rainfall is overdone
- GFS model is wetter in the eastern Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa for next week and into the following weekend suggesting a better opportunity for soil moisture and crop improvements
- The European model continues wet biased in the same region as it has been during much of this week
- Rain Is still advertised for most U.S. crop areas during the next ten days supporting most late season crops favorably
- Texas rainfall continues restricted south of the Red River Valley through the next ten days
- Texas, Oklahoma and the lower U.S. Delta will be very warm to hot through the coming week and probably for ten days in Texas
- GFS model is still promoting a tropical cyclone into the Gulf of Mexico near mid-month with the 00z model run bringing the system into far western parts of the Florida Panhandle and southwestern Alabama Aug. 15 while the 06z model runs suggested the system would stay over open water as a very weak system with possible landfall in Texas Aug. 16 (confidence is still very low on this event)
- Europe will continue wet in the north and some central areas for a while longer, though the greatest rainfall is advertised a little less frequently today than Thursday
- France, the Iberian Peninsula and portions of southeastern Europe will be drier biased for the next ten days; including central and eastern Ukraine
- Russia’s Southern Region, northwestern Kazakhstan and the southern Ural Mountains region will be dry and warm for the next ten days
- China remains plenty wet over the next two weeks except central and western Inner Mongolia where a dry bias will prevail
- Typhoon Khanun will move through the Ryukyu Islands of Japan this weekend and then turn to the north passing through Shikoku and western Honshu next week possibly ending up in Heilongjiang, China late next week
- Thailand and Vietnam rainfall may be restricted for a while
- Improved rainfall is likely for Indonesia and Malaysia from Sumatra to Borneo and Sulawesi in the coming ten days

- Net drying from Russia’s Southern Region to northwestern Kazakhstan and the southern Ural Mountains region remains a concern for late season crops
- The northeast half of India will be excessively wet in the coming week
- Western and southern India rainfall will be limited for a while benefitting crops in north while keeping those in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh too dry
- Typhoon Khanun is expected to produce copious rain, severe flooding and damaging wind in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan this week due to its slow movement.
- The storm will eventually threaten Japan’s main islands and possibly southeastern South Korea, but not until next week.
- U.S. crop weather will be wettest from South Dakota into Kansas and from there east across the lower Midwest into the northern Delta and southeastern states during the next ten days
- Northernmost parts of the U.S. Midwest may continue a little drier than usual

- Tropical cyclone 04B has moved into Bangladesh today and will contribute to heavy rain in the Ganges River Basin during the coming week
- The northeast half of India will be excessively wet in the coming week
- Western India rainfall will be limited for a while benefitting crops in north while keeping those in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh too dry
- Additional heavy rain left over from the remnants of Typhoon Doksuri fell in northern Hebei and Beijing, China Monday with another 5-6 inches resulting the impact of flooding rain in the heart of Hebei, western Shandong and northeastern Henan is still being assessed, though some crop damage should have resulted from rainfall varying from 19.00 to 22.00 inches during the weekend
- Typhoon Khanun is expected to produce copious rain, severe flooding and damaging wind in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan this week due to its slow movement.
- The storm will eventually threaten Japan’s main islands and possibly southeastern South Korea, but not until next week.
- U.S. crop weather will be wettest across the central Plains and the southwest half of the Midwest into the Delta and southeastern states during the next ten days

WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR JULY 31, 2023
- Excessive rain fell during the weekend in western parts of the North China Plain, southeastern Fujian and in a few areas northward from there into Anhui and Jiangsu from the remnants of Typhoon Doksuri
- Rain totals reached over 28.00 inches in southeastern Fujian and ranged from 6.00 to 22.46 inches in the western North China Plain
- Heavy rain also fell in southwestern Luzon Island Philippines where up to 19.00 inches was noted since Friday morning and that followed 10-25 inches of rain in west-central and northwestern Luzon earlier last week
- Western India will trend drier this week and that may prove beneficial to summer crops in the region
- Europe will be wetter than usual this week in the north-central and northeast cutting into some late season winter crop harvest progress and raising some concern over crop quality
- Australia’s southern crops remain favorably rated with timely rainfall supporting winter crop conditions, but more rain is needed in the north
- Argentina will remain drier than usual for another ten days keeping wheat poorly established in the west; there is some potential for a few showers in about a week
- Brazil’s Safrinha harvest weather is expected to remain very good over the next ten days due to limited rain
- Canada’s Prairies and the northern U.S. Plains and upper Midwest will continue struggling for greater precipitation to support the best late season crop development, but the odds are good that starting late this week in the northern Plains and in Canada’s Prairies next week there will be some improved rainfall
- The precipitation may come too late for many crops
- Texas and southern Oklahoma as well as most of the far western U.S. will be drier biased for at least another week with the potential for rain improving after early next week
- U.S. Delta was dry and warm to hot during the weekend will stay that way for a while this week and then some timely rain should resume later in the week through next week
- Lower U.S. Midwest and southeastern states should experience well timed rainfall and seasonable temperatures for summer crops
- Indonesia and Malaysia rainfall will remain limited over the next few days and then expand from northern Sumatra and parts of northern Borneo southward into Sulawesi, southern Sumatra and western Java
- Western Thailand and Myanmar still need greater rainfall to ease long term dryness
