WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MAY 24, 2023
- Super typhoon Mawar has moved past Guam after producing incredibly strong wind, up to 25 inches of rain and brought a notable storm surge inland; damage assessments will begin later today as the storm clears the region
- Canada’s central and eastern Prairies will get rain over the next seven days bolstering topsoil moisture for improved spring and summer crop planting, emergence and establishment
- Center west Brazil will remain seasonably dry with Mato Grosso and Goias needing a little more rain to support late season cotton and the most immature corn
- Rain expected in Sao Paulo, Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul in the coming week will be great for winter wheat and for late reproducing and filling Safrinha corn; there is no threatening cold coming any time soon.
- Argentina still needs rain in its westernmost wheat production areas, but planting moisture elsewhere is expected to be good especially after the next wave of rain occurs
- U.S southwestern Plains will see frequent showers and thunderstorms
- Some wheat areas in Texas and Oklahoma could encounter some wheat quality issues because of rain , but not in Kansas
- U.S. Midwest will see limited rainfall over the next ten days
- Australia still needs greater rainfall in Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland, though amounts in the next ten days will be limited
- Northern India will be unusually wet
- China weather remains favorable as is much of central and southern Europe
- Northwestern Europe will continue to dry down
- Russia’s New Lands near and east of the Ural Mountains will dry down over the next ten days
- Rain in North Africa and Spain has improved topsoil moisture
- Increasing rain is predicted for Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos
- Much less rain is expected in Indonesia and Malaysia this weekend and especially next week
