WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR SEPTEMBER 19, 2023
- Dryness concerns remain in Russia’s Southern Region, Ukraine and the Volga River Basin of Russia where winter crop planting is advancing, but soil moisture is low resulting in possibly some poor emergence and establishment
- Rain is unlikely to fall significantly through the end of this month
- Australia’s winter crop areas continue to be subjected to poor precipitation and this trend will extend for another ten days
- Unirrigated northern crops are reproducing under poor conditions and yields will be down considerably
- Argentina will get some moisture this weekend in the western dry areas, but resulting rainfall may not be enough to seriously change the poor winter crop conditions in some areas
- Drought in Canada continues to support excellent harvest weather, but fear over poor soil moisture during the winter is rising since the ground usually freezes up in the November through March period preventing much moisture absorption
- Not much precipitation is expected for a while
- Southeastern Europe continues to dry out raising the need for winter crop planting moisture, but spring and summer harvest progress is advancing well
- Seasonal rainfall in Brazil’s center west and center south is expected to being in early October, but a drier bias should prevail until then
- U.S. Northern Plains and western Corn Belt will receive rain late this week and into the weekend slowing summer crop maturation and early harvest progress
- Eastern U.S. Midwest weather will be drier than usual for a while favoring summer crop maturation and early harvesting
- A tropical or subtropical low pressure center is still expected to evolve off the lower U.S. east coast late this week producing rain for the Carolinas, Virginia and other middle Atlantic Coast States, but damaging wind is unlikely
- East-central China will get moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days resulting in field working delays and more potential flooding
- Gujarat, India rainfall was not as heavy as feared Monday or early today and most crops in the state benefited from the moisture
- Southern Indonesia remains quite dry with little change likely for a while
