WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR AUGUST 15, 2023
- Hot weather is still the talk of the market place today and will be that way for a while
- Excessive heat occurred again in Turkey Monday
- Europe will be warmer than usual over the next full week and possibly ten days
- Portions of the western CIS will continue quite warm for another week before cooling down from north to south
- U.S. Pacific Coast and Gulf of Mexico Coastal areas were hot Monday with extremes reaching 113 in northwestern California, 110 in southwestern Oregon, 108 in southern Louisiana, 107 in Texas and 106 in southern Mississippi and near 100 from Virginia to Georgia
- A viable heat wave will impact the U.S. Plains and western Midwest this weekend through the early to middle part of next week
- U.S. livestock in the Plains will experience threatening conditions during the height of the heat wave this weekend into next week
- U.S. crop stress will be on the rise after a few days of hot and dry weather
- U.S. High pressure ridge will shift back to the southwest from the Midwest during the second half of next week at which time cooling and “some” rain will begin again especially in the northeastern Midwest
- Western Argentina drought areas will get a few showers briefly Wednesday into Thursday, but no drought busting rain is expected
- Southern Australia will continue to get periods of light rain while Queensland is a little too warm and very dry
- China will continue to see frequent rain, although alternating periods of sunshine and warm weather is also expected
- Southern Europe will need to cool down and trend wetter for best summer crop conditions
- India’s west and south will continue to dry out for the next two weeks, despite some rain
- Northern and central Sumatra, Indonesia rainfall increased Monday while other areas in Southeast Asia had limited rain
- Canada’s Prairies will see rain in the north this week, but there is some potential for rain in the drought stricken areas this weekend and especially next week
- A tropical wave is “possible” in the Gulf of Mexico late this coming weekend into next week that might bring some rain to Texas and/or Louisiana
- Typhoon Lan has moved across western Honshu, Japan producing some heavy rain and local flooding along wing strong wind speeds
