WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR OCTOBER 9, 2023
- Some beneficial rain developed in northern Ukraine during the weekend to improve winter crop emergence and establishment, though there is need for much more rain
- Showers will occur periodically over the next ten days in Ukraine and Russia’s Southern Region, although daily rainfall is not likely to be very great and there may be an ongoing need for more moisture
- India will be dry biased over the next week except in the far south and extreme east
- Northern India may get some rain late this weekend and early next week to improve planting moisture for winter crops like wheat, rapeseed, millet and others
- Myanmar is expecting to see some improved rainfall to raise the nation’s moisture profile and improve late season crops this week
- Frequent heavy rain this week in Vietnam may lead to flooding from the Da Nang area through Hue and up the coast to the Red River; some areas may end up with 10-15 inches of rain and possibly more during the next week to ten days
- China will see more favorable planting and harvesting weather over the next ten days
- Europe weather will continue to include less than usual precipitation for portions of the central and south for at least another week
- Argentina’s western crop areas will continue drought stricken for a while longer, despite some infrequent shower activity
- Southern Brazil will continue too wet for the next ten days while center west brazil rainfall is expected to gradually improve during the second half of this month and in November
- Canada’s Prairies will experience good harvest weather over the coming week to ten days
- Southern U.S. Plains will be dry biased over the next two weeks
- U.S. Midwest rainfall will be significant Wednesday night into the weekend from Nebraska and southern South Dakota to Michigan
- Tropical Storm Lidia is expected to move into west-central Mexico as a hurricane and then dissipate Wednesday, although its remnant moisture will then move across the U.S. Gulf of Mexico coast areas
