WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR AUGUST 28, 2023
- India’s forecast is still dry biased for the next two weeks in the northwest; including Rajasthan, Gujarat, neighboring Pakistan and portions of northern Maharashtra, northwestern Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana
- China received heavy rain in east-central parts of the nation during the weekend with rainfall of 3.25 to more than 10.00 inches from Sichuan, Shaanxi and Hubei to Jiangsu, southern Shandong and a part of southwestern Hebei resulting in some flooding
- Northern and east-central China will be drier biased after Tuesday, but rain is expected today and early Tuesday
- Typhoon Saola will pose a threat to southern Taiwan and southern crop areas of Guangdong and Fujian, China this week and into the weekend
- Australia’s Queensland, northern New South Wales and northern Western Australia are still advertised to be dry for the next two weeks raising concern over early reproducing wheat and barley in September
- Southern Australia precipitation will be lighter than usual, although routine enough to maintain good canola, wheat and barley conditions
- Europe’s weather is trending wetter once again especially from the Alps
- Interior western Russia, Southern Russia, eastern Ukraine and western Kazakhstan will also receive little to no rain in the coming ten days resulting in a continued need for rain to support late season crops; good harvest progress is expected for small grains
- Drying from eastern Ukraine to western Kazakhstan and northward through the middle Volga River Basin will continue for another ten days
- U.S. Midwest weather will continue drier than usual through the next 12 days
- Lower parts of the U.S. Midwest received some welcome rain during the weekend, but areas to the north were dry
- Cooling occurred in both the northern Plains and Midwest during the weekend
- U.S. Midwest weather will trend warmer than usual again during the latter part of this week into next week
- Tropical Storm Idalia formed in the northwestern Caribbean Sea during the weekend will reach northern Florida and southern Georgia as a major hurricane Wednesday
- Canada’s Prairies will receive restricted rainfall this week and temperatures will trend warmer than usual
- West Texas and the Texas Blacklands will get some rain tonight and Monday with another week of drying after that
