WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MARCH 10, 2023
- Opportunity for dryness relief is still on the forecast charts for the second half of next week, but it is still a little too far out in time to have high expectations – no drought busting rain is expected, but some relief will occur
- North Africa is still too dry in many areas which may be hurting wheat and barley development
- Not much rain is expected for a while
- India will see dry biased weather for another week and then some rain is possible in the east and south, but it may come too late to seriously change winter crop production potential
- China will remain wettest in the Yangtze River Basin benefiting rapeseed development and early rice planting
- China’s warm weather is bringing winter wheat out of dormancy in the Yellow River Basin and North China Plain, but not much precipitation is likely in the region for a while
- Europe will see a more active weather pattern over the next ten days in the central and north finally raising water reservoir levels along with boosting river and stream flow in many areas
- Dryness remains in eastern Spain and the lower Danube River Basin with little relief anticipated
- Western CIS crop areas will also see an active weather pattern evolve over the next couple of weeks keeping the moisture profile looking excessively wet in many areas, but not in Russia’s Southern Region where conditions should be good
- U.S. dryness will continue in the west-central and southwestern Plains
- Southern Texas rainfall is still looking probable for next week
- Cool weather in the central United States looks to prevail during the second week of the outlook after developing next week
- Southern Canada’s Prairies will receive some welcome and beneficial snowfall this weekend
- U.S. Delta and Tennessee River Basin will continue wet biased for a while along with eastern and southern parts of the Midwest
- California’s snow event today into the weekend in the Sierra Nevada will be very impressive with 1.5 to 5.0 feet of snow expected
