WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR OCTOBER 4, 2023

•  New South Wales, Australia received some welcome rain Tuesday and earlier today and the precipitation will wind down today
• Western Australia is expected to be drier than usual for another ten days and possibly two weeks raising crop moisture stress while winter crops reproduce
• Russia and Ukraine dryness will continue for another week, although some forecast models have suggested better rain potentials in the second week of the outlook
• Argentina rainfall the past two days has improved topsoil moisture slightly in the driest areas and much more rain is needed before winter crops are going to improve significantly
• Argentina still needs greater rain to support early corn and sunseed planting conditions
• Europe will be dry biased in the west and south for at least another week to ten days
• Frost and freezes are expected in far eastern Europe, Ukraine and far western Russia, although the impact on crops will be minimal
• Frost and freezes in Canada and the northern half of the U.S. Plains Friday and Saturday will finally end the growing season and help to expedite harvesting 
• Rain in the central U.S. Plains Tuesday and today will prove to be a little disappointing in the west-central and northwestern hard red winter wheat production region and greater rain will be needed soon
• Southwestern Canada’s Prairies will remain drought stricken for an extended period of time
• Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan, Canada have received some welcome rain recently delaying summer crop maturation and harvesting, but improving the moisture profile for crop use in the spring of 2024; additional rain and some snow is expected into Friday
• Heavy rain has begun in Rio Grande do Sul overnight and waves of it will continue in most of southern Brazil through the coming week eventually causing some flooding and raising deeper concerns about winter wheat conditionss
• Center west Brazil soybean production areas will experience a more erratic rainfall pattern for the next week which may slow seed germination and plant emergence
• Southern parts of Indonesia remain dry while the remainder of Southeast Asia has favorable soil moisture
• Typhoon Koinu will move across southern Taiwan later today producing torrential rain, flooding and strong wind possibly damaging a small part of the island’s crops and property before moving on to the southeastern China coast this weekend
