WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR OCTOBER 17, 2023
- Excessive heat occurred in northern Argentina, Paraguay and a few neighboring areas in Brazil Monday with extreme highs of 100 to 111 Fahrenheit
- Argentina rain potentials still look better for Saturday through Monday and again Oct. 25-26 with sufficient rain expected to improve topsoil moisture in many areas
- Center west Brazil will continue drying out over the next week with temperatures very warm to hot stressing early planted crops
- Southern Brazil will get more excessive rain through the end of this week
- Western Australia will remain dry for the next ten days
- Queensland and northern New South Wales unirrigated summer crop planting will remain on hold due to dryness for an indefinite period of time
- Ukraine and northern parts of Russia’s Southern Region will get significant moisture in the coming ten days easing long term dryness
- Cooling in western parts of the CIS and eastern Europe may slow winter crop development, but new growth and establishment will continue
- Dryness will prevail in the middle and lower Danube River Basin through the next ten days
- Morocco will get some needed rain in the next ten days
- Western Europe is expecting abundant to excessive rainfall late this week through much of next week stalling fieldwork, but raising soil moisture and water supply
- Torrential flooding continues in central coastal areas of Vietnam with another 8.00 inches of rain occurring Monday bring 4-day totals to 41.30 inches at Da Nang with more rain coming
- A tropical cyclone forming off the west coast of Mexico will bring rain to central and northeastern Mexico next week as well as in a part of the U.S. southern Plains and southeastern hard red winter wheat areas
- Cooling may bring rain and snow to the northern U.S. Plains and eastern Canada’s Prairies next week
