WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR OCTOBER 26, 2023
- Frost and a few light freezes occurred in Victoria and southeastern South Australia overnight resulting in pockets of possible damage to wheat, barley, canola and some pulse crops; damage was suspected of being very low
- Excessive rain fell in central Texas overnight with 4.00 to 8.71 inches resulting from the big bend area of the Rio Grande through the Dallas and Fort Worth areas to southeastern Oklahoma resulting in widespread flooding
- The European forecast model has increased center west Brazil rainfall again late in this coming seven day period and especially during the second weekend of the two week forecast
- Some of this increase was overdone
- The GFS model run continues to downplay rainfall in center west Brazil over the next week to ten days and until the Amazon River Basin clouds up better and daily thunderstorms occur it is likely that the GFS is handling the situation better than the ECMWF
- Southern Brazil flooding is expected again Friday night through the middle part of next week as 4.00 to more than 10.00 inches of rain results over already saturated ground; replanting of some crops will be needed and some property damage is likely
- Argentina weather has changed little overnight with showers and thunderstorms occurring erratically during the next week to ten days with some increase in rainfall during the second week of the forecast
- Europe will continue trending wetter with western parts of the continent eventually becoming a little too wet
- Southeastern Europe will be drier than usual in this first week of the forecast and then trend a little wetter
- Russia’s Southern Region and Ukraine will receive additional waves of rain and stay warm enough for winter crops to benefit from improving soil moisture
- Southern Indonesia rainfall will continue lighter than usual for an extended period of time
- Bitter cold in Canada and the northwestern U.S. Plains is poised to surge southeast this weekend and early next week with freezes occurring southward into central Texas, the Northern Delta and interior parts of the southeastern states
- Snow will fall again today and Friday from Montana and Wyoming through northern Minnesota and southeastern Manitoba
- U.S. southeastern states will remain dry for much of the coming week and possibly for ten days
