WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR MAY 23, 2025
- Center west and center south Brazil still have a good chance of getting some timely rain next week as colder airmass pushes into Brazil from Argentina. The rain will be light to locally moderate, but it occurs while late-planted Safrinha corn is reproducing or about to and that should translate into some temporary crop improvement
- Argentina’s rain in the next ten days will be concentrated on the central and east and beneficial for wheat and barley planting and establishment
- China’s two-day rain event this week in the drought stricken Yellow River Basin was beneficial for a few areas, though most of the region failed to see serious changes to soil or crop conditions
- East-central China will now be dry biased for another full week
- Some computer forecast models are still promoting another chance for rain in the first week of June
- Australia rain potentials will improve in some wheat, barley and canola areas during the first week of June; until then, showers will be sporadic and light benefiting only a few winter crop areas
- Russia’s Southern Region, eastern Ukraine and western Kazakhstan are unlikely to get much rain for the next week to ten days and temperatures will trend warmer leading to some net drying conditions
- West weather in eastern Europe will benefit many crops from the Balkan region through western Ukraine to northwestern Russia in the coming week
- Russia’s New Lands will also get some occasional rain in the coming week
- Rain is likely in the dry areas of the North Sea region (including much of Germany) during the coming week
- Relief from prolonged dryness is expected, though additional rain will be needed
- Many areas if France may be missed by the coming week of showers and thunderstorms leaving parts of the nation in need of significant rain
- Some crop stress is expected as temperatures trend warmer
- S. holiday weekend weather will be wet from western South Dakota and eastern Montana to the Delta and southeastern Great Plains
- Some heavy rain and flooding are likely in southern Missouri, the Delta, southeastern Kansas, eastern Oklahoma and north-central and northeastern Texas
- Drying is likely in the heart of the Midwest
- Some rain will reach into parts of the Midwest next week and into the following weekend
- West Texas, South Texas and the Texas Coastal Bend will get some rain next week as well with sporadic showers possible in some areas this weekend
- S. southeastern states may get some relief to recent dryness next week
- Canada’s central and eastern Prairies will be dry biased during the next ten days with temperatures trending warmer leading to some soil moisture depletion
- Mexico rain will be greatest in the south and east parts of the nation leaving drought in the northwest
