WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR OCTOBER 11, 2023
- Western Australia will remain too dry for reproducing and filling winter wheat, barley and canola over the next ten days
- Queensland, Australia dryness will prevail for the next two weeks leaving dryland fields unplanted for a while longer
- Argentina’s drought remains for a while longer, but may get some relief near and beyond mid-month
- Center west Brazil may see some increasing rainfall during the second week of the two week forecast
- Southern Brazil remains much too wet and waves of rain will continue
- Southern Indonesia drought conditions remain serious with little chance for change
- Hurricane Lidia moved through Nayarit and northwestern Jalisco overnight producing torrential rain, flooding and very strong wind along the coast and up to 100 miles inland; the system has dissipated as a tropical cyclone this morning
- Remnant moisture from Hurricane Lidia’s and minor weather disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico will combine and bring rain to many U.S. Gulf of Mexico coastal areas later today and Thursday; heavy rain may impact northern Florida, southern Georgia and southeastern Alabama as a result of this
- Northern India may get some beneficial planting moisture late this weekend into next week for winter crop areas, although it will be light
- Andhra Pradesh, India is too dry and needs rain
- Southern Russia and Ukraine showers in the next two weeks will be light and erratic benefiting some areas, but leaving the need for more rain
- U.S. weather will be briefly wetter in the northern Midwest today into Friday with a small follow up storm system late next week
- Windy conditions are likely in the U.S. Plains today and Thursday with some concern over mature cotton in the southwest
- Colder than usual temperatures are expected in the Midwest, southern Plains and southeastern states this weekend into next week
- Canada’s Prairies will remain largely dry for the coming week while Ontario and Quebec, Canada remain wet for a little while longer
- Myanmar and western Thailand will continue to receive frequent rain improving water supply and soil moisture
- Central and northern Vietnam is expecting torrential rain in the coming week
